Rosso to lead actuaries’ society

The Society of Actuaries (SOA) has appointed Clar Rosso as chief executive officer of the $72M-revenue group. Rosso succeeds Greg Heidrich, SOA’s CEO since 2007.

Most recently, as CEO of cybersecurity association ISC2, Rosso expanded membership from 158,000 to nearly 700,000 and doubled revenue. She strengthened the organization’s international engagement and launched a cybersecurity certification that recognized more than 63,000 professionals in 24 months. At SOA Rosso will drive the organization’s global growth. 

“Clar’s experience leading global credentialing organizations and advancing professional education will help guide the SOA as we continue to strengthen the actuarial profession, expand our global impact and serve our members,” said Dave Dillon, SOA board president and chair.

Staff Departures

Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) — Nick Key has left his role as vice president of government affairs at the $62M-revenue SIFMA and joined Nomura as a vice president of public policy and government affairs. 

National Electrical Manufacturers Association — Spencer Pederson is joining Ridgeline Advocacy Group as a partner. He was most recently SVP of public affairs at the $26M-revenue National Electrical Manufacturers Association and is a Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) alum.

Staff Arrivals 

Independent Petroleum Association of America — Abigail Miller is joining the $5M-revenue Independent Petroleum Association of America as vice president of communications and strategy. Miller previously led communications for the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America.

Association of Equipment Manufacturers — Katherine (Thomas) Grady has joined the $30M-revenue Association of Equipment Manufacturers as director of federal affairs. She most recently worked for the Senate Committee on Agriculture.

Food Industry Association (FMI) — David Haaf will join FMI as vice president of Fresh Foods. He brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across retail, food service, and trade association sectors. Most recently, Haaf was president and CEO of the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association. He departed that role in March.

Children’s Hospital Association — Melinda Roach has joined $46M-revenue CHA as senior director of policy and regulatory affairs. She was most recently at the Medicaid and CHIP Payment Access Commission and formerly worked for the National Governors Association.
